Heritage Education Funds has been around for 47 years, exclusively dealing with RESPs and we’ve educated more than 600,000 students to date. As per National Policy 15, the 2 billion dollar assets are invested in various lower risk investments that earn a competitve and consistent return.
The plan can be used for all types of post-secondary education, Registered Post-secondary institutes in Canada and abroad. The plan is also eligible to receive 3 various grants offered by the Federal Government for saving in a RESP. This includes the CESG, Additional CESG and Canada Learning Bond. Everyone receives a 20% top up to their contributions, regardless of subscriber’s income. The other grants are dependent on income.
For payout, Heritage offers 4 options which includes payout of 100% Principal tax-free, Interest and Government Grant monies, taxed at the student’s marginal tax bracket.
With Heritage you have 7 methods of contribution. Depending on what your goals are and how you’d like to reach your goals, you can choose a plan where you are contributing a varied amount per year, or a set amount monthly or annually.
If the beneficiary does not go to school, you have the option of withdrawing your principal and interest in cash, transferring the RESP to another child, or rolling your RESP into your own RRSP. You even have options of using your RESP on other things other than schooling and tuition, such as down payment on a home or an investment into a business endeavour.

The Inspiration
I have been in business for a while, but wanted to find a career that would work with my young family. Heritage Education Funds is a great fit because I enjoy educating families of the importance of starting to save for their child’s post-secondary education as soon as they can.
What makes your product unique/different?
Heritage Education Funds has the most flexible scholarship plan. We primarily invest in low-risk, interest-bearing investments with a consistent and steady principal. Your principal is protected under our plan. In addition, we educate families on the Canada Education Savings Grant provided from the government where 20% is added contribution to your contribution (Example, up to max $500/yr, total grant over 18 yrs is $7200). In addition, if you child decides not to go to school, your funds will still be available to use as cash, transfer to another sibling, or transfer to an RRSP or spousal RRSP.
If you could have one super-hero power, what would it be?
To one thing would be the ability to have more than two hands because with three kids, I always feel one hand short!
What is the most rewarding thing about running your own business?
The fact that I get to set my own hours to work around my family is one is the best advantages of running your own business. There is also a sense of responsibility that your successes and failures rely solely on you. In the end, your success is determined by your hard work and determination.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I hope to become an Agency Director with Heritage Education Funds and build a successful team in Saskatchewan.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a working mom {so far}?
Balance and time-management is one of the most difficult tasks while being a working mom. I have had to accept the fact that my house isn’t perfectly tidy or that I may not get everything I need to get done in one day. I have learned that sometimes slowing down, and taking a breather to be with my family helps me focus on my work duties when I have a chance to do them.
