2014 Children’s Festival Tickets On Sale
Children’s Festival Public Tickets On Sale
Saskatoon – Sound the trumpets and bang the drums! Tickets are now on sale for one and all to the 2014 PotashCorp Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan, which runs June 1–4 on the riverbank of Kiwanis Park in downtown Saskatoon. This year’s theme is “Sounds Like Fun” and the festival will explore all aspects of sound and creativity through world-class Mainstage performances and interactive site activities.
As always, the festival features a multi-disciplinary line-up of international talent, each tying into our theme of exploring sound in different ways. The Intergalactic Nemesis, Book 1: Target Earth from the United States – seen on Broadway, Conan O’Brian and PBS – presents a live-action graphic novel staged as a radio drama with Foley sound effects and projected comic book illustrations. Also on the Mainstage, Canadian performers Le groupe Swing bring their lively fusion of fast fiddling, R&B, rock and traditional French Canadian music; Corpus Theatre presents a physical comedy piece about a Flying Squadron determined to continue their mission without any planes; Mi Casa Theatre offers a charming story with moments of quiet beauty in the award-winning Fringe play Countries Shaped Like Stars; and rounding out the program with a roar, ERTH’s Dinosaur Zoo returns from Australia.
For the youngest audiences, three shows are presented on the SeeSaw Stage, adjacent to the Kinder-Garden Play Zone. Will Stroet and his Backyard Band will get the whole family rocking with his catchy tunes about everything from trains to vegetables to pirates – all the important stuff; Sheldon Casavant will surprise and amaze with a fun and interactive style of magic stoytelling; and Stories on Wheels will captivate audiences with well-told tales and beautiful illustrations. Perfect for a child’s first introduction to theatre, the puppet poem POMME: The Story of an Apple will play in both French and English at La Troupe du Jour’s theatre space on 20th St.
Featured on site: Circus Arts 101 Tent, under the direction of Flyin’ Bob Palmer and James O’Shea, with peer mentorship from our youth volunteer Gravity Ambassadors. Also, this year the Hands-On Art Tent features a sound art installation in partnership with PAVED Arts, as well as SoundLab workshops throughout the day. Festival favourites PotashCorp Fossil Find, Saskatoon Public Library Story Tent, face painting, Agrium Seed Survivor, LEGO big build, and performing arts workshops in the Beehive are all ready for re-discovery.
