Booster Seat Laws are changing June 27
Effective June 27, 2014, booster seats will be mandatory for children under 7 years of age, and less than 145 cm (4’9”) in height and 36 kg (80 lb.) in weight. Tickets will be $175.00.
If you are like me, you may wonder if your child needs to meet all three requirements. My tall, lanky kid is a long ways away from 80 lbs. While she is still in a booster, wanted to double check with SGI what the laws are.
Here is what SGI Rep told us:
Age is the clincher here – kids under 7 NEED a booster seat. Kids 7 and over SHOULD use a booster seat until they meet the height (4’9) and weight (80 lbs) requirement. We actually just put out a news release this morning with more info:

Our website also has a ton of information about the different seats (rear, forward, booster and seatbelts) and when to move your child to the next stage:www.sgi.sk.ca
We also offer free car seat clinics: www.sgi.sk.ca/clinic. These clinics are awesome! The technicians are very friendly and knowledgeable and are there to make sure your seats are safely installed and to answer any questions you have about keeping your kids safe in a vehicle. Moms, dads, grandparents, caregivers, anyone driving with a child is welcome to attend.
If you have any other questions, please visit our Facebook page or contact us via Twitter @SGItweets, email trafficsafety@sgi.sk.ca or phone 306-775-6042. We’re here to help keep your families safe!
Just as a reminder, all children under 40 lbs will still need to be in a 5 point harness car seat regardless of age and height.
