Thank goodness for people like Carolyn of Darling Baby Designs as she makes the cutest custom handmade newborn items. While her clients are generally photography based, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her lion hat!!
The little boy who got to test it, also fell in love with it. His mom has told me, he wears it for pre-school, for playing pretend and of course for being a ‘scary lion!’

The Inspiration
I have always had a passion for crafting and online shopping so the combination led me to an overwhelming amount of supplies. I began selling tag blanket and hair accessories on eBay 3 1/2 years ago. In September 2010 I opened my Etsy store and with the help of a photographer friend and my very patient family, I’ve been busy ever since.
What makes your product unique/different?
I specialize in custom handmade items mainly newborn photography props but certainly not limited to. I am always searching for new materials to work with, with the idea of having something for every one’s taste and something unique. Everything I make is made by hand which takes time and love. All I hope for is for is that my customers respect the craft and in turn send some love back my way.
What keeps you motivated?
I’ve had a number of requests for custom items in the past few weeks so the chance to create something new combined with happy customers and the seeing the beautiful work of others using my creations keeps me totally motivated. I’ve had the pleasure to work with some very talented photographers and look forward to much much more!!
If you could have one super-hero power, what would it be?
Anyone who knows me will often hear me say, ” I just wish this day didn’t have to end” So it might not be a superpower but I work lots of late nights and wish the 4 or 5 hours of sleep I get most nights would be enough to get by day after day.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Wow, I never imagined being where I am now but I certainly would love to be crafting daily like I do now and continually growing my options for handmade articles.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a working mom {so far}?
“Don’t sweat the small stuff” I do what I can, when I can and eventually everything gets done!!
