I have seen haze lwood baby necklaces on babies in my mommy group and had talked to women how they claim they help with teething,  irritability, and more. A few women I know swear by hazle wood necklaces during their babies teething time but I had yet to test one on any of my babies.

Caroline sent a beautiful necklace for us to try and I was eager to see what would happen on my picky baby. I was a bit concerned that the necklace would pinch or bother my baby but she didn’t seem to notice or mind one bit.  I was a bit worried about safety and Caroline was healpfull to add:

I know there is always worries about having a necklace around baby’s neck.  That why it is the choice of the parents to decide  if they remove or not the necklace when baby is sleeping.  For my part, I didn’t have problem with my children and, as you can read on that notification, they never had injury report with those necklaces.
Also, to make it very safe, I adopted the double blocking method on the 2 sides of the fastener and I make the necklace with the best nylon string so it is more resistant.  Plus, I recommend to parents to have only two fingers between the necklace and the baby’s neck.
If parents replace the necklace when the wood starts to chip or is broken (every 3-6 months) and the size is good for the child, nothing should happen.

I found that I didn’t remove it at night. My baby never seems to grab at it and I check it often to make sure nothing is broken. I do take it off in the pool as I don’t want to wear it out any faster than need be. Simply because from about 2 days after putting on the necklace – my baby seemed to settle down at bedtime and nap times. As the days passed where she used to wake up screaming, I would find she was awake and just playing in her crib.

Can I guarantee it was the necklace that caused a change? Not 100%. That said, I leave it on and she’s much happier. I am happier and 2 little teeth are almost through.  You could now count me in as one of those moms that finds that I now say that Caroline’s hazel wood necklace has made a difference in my baby’s happiness.

The Inspiration

I decided to start the business about 2 years ago when I was not able to find an hazelwood necklace for my daughter in Saskatoon.  I had to order it online and it was expensive with postage.  So I decided to start to make my own one and try to keep the price low because with a child you can easily buy 2 or 3 maybe more depending of the acidity of the child.

What makes your product unique/different?

My product are the cheapest in Saskatoon with the same quality.  People can also make special order, something than you can not have if you go in a store.

What keeps you motivated?

Because all my children are wearing those necklaces (I have 5 children), and many of my friends are ordering from me because it is cheaper, it helps me to continue.

If you could have one super-hero power, what would it be?
Add more hours in my days!  And use them for sleeping!

What is the most rewarding thing about running your own business?

See people happy with your product.  When they come back again  and they say how good it was for them or their children.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Probably it will be still small but running because I still work full time.  Anyway, my goal is to give a good product instead to make thousand items.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a working mom {so far}?

Take time to think about it and decide to do something that they would use/do.  It is easier to continue if you believe in your products/services.
