A Tip for Saskatoon Parents

As a mom of soon to be three – I find my opinions of what what I thought parenting was going to be like and what parenting IS like may be slightly different.  The Star Phoenix and SaskatoonMoms  want to hear from you…

What tip do you have for other parents in Saskatoon?

my tip?

Trust your gut when it comes to your kids and your family. If it works for you – don’t let others tell you it’s wrong.

what’s your tip?

  1. Don’t judge the mom who’s child is having a tantrum and she (the mother) looks like she’s ready to break down or snap. You never know whats going on in their lives – rather then judging give her a smile or a hand if you can…things aren’t always as they seem.

Being a mother doesn’t mean you know how to handle every situation with ease and grace and have all the right answers – asking for help or advise does not make you a bad parent.

Yes YOUR kids will know how to push YOUR buttons and all the perfect places to do it too. Sometimes even a deep breath to calm yourself doesn’t work and all you want to do is vent/cry/scream – when those times happen, at the end of the day don’t feel bad/embarrased, we’ve all been there and probably done that too. And yes, your child will still love you unconditionally.

Most importantly, cherish all the memories you have with your children & as a family. The good & the bad, the easy and the hard times – those memories are what makes each of our relationships with our kids so unique and special.

You are not just “mom” or “wife”, you are *insert name here* and YOU matter and YOU are worth it, never forget that

  4. Find your “tribe” – moms need to be surrounded by other like-minded moms. There are many different types of moms groups out there – find one that suits your values and parenting style.

  5. Do NOT feel guilty about getting a babysitter to have some time to yourself or a date night with your spouse. Once a year isn’t enough, your whole family benefits when you are refreshed and feeling good!
