My little ones and I love dance parties. We do dance parties with our cousins, friends, or on a rainy day. We have zero rhythm and look funny doing it but have lots of fun. I have started to talk to more and more parents that are having fun and learning dance at some of the local dance companies around town. Kim’s SumbAtomic classes look like a TON of fun and if your little ones have lots of energy and want to move – this looks like the class for them! I know my oldest would! The Inspiration
I fell in love with Cuban music and dance and needed to be around others who loved it, too. The problem was, when I moved back to Saskatoon in 2005, there were people teaching Latin dance, but there was no Salsa community or classes being offered. So I decided to start this company to create a community of people who love to dance salsa. Since that time, the company has evolved to not only teaching Salsa, but also Bachata, Chica Bonita, Zumba, and children’s classes, just to name a few.
What makes your product unique/different?
Our classes are focused on our clients having fun while learning to dance. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, and we always want people to feel comfortable in class, even if they have never danced a day in their life.
What keeps you motivated?
My daughter motivates me to keep learning and be the best dancer and person I can possibly be. My love for Cuban dance, music, and culture also keeps me going in this business. It’s my passion.
If you could have one super-hero power, what would it be?
To clone myself. Sometimes I literally need to be 5 places at once!
What is the most rewarding thing about running your own business?
The most rewarding thing is that I am able to do what I love, while being a role-model for my daughter. I love that she gets to grow up knowing that she can pursue her dreams, too.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I see the business having a professional dance performance team, travelling around the country and world showing others what we have here in Saskatchewan.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a working mom {so far}?
You’ll only regret the chances you didn’t take. Perservere, even through tough times, because the only way you’ll fail is if you give up.
