The Inspiration
Many years ago someone asked me to sing at the school for library week, I said no, but a friend encouraged me to join her. We had an awesome time and everyone enjoyed it. After that we thought perhaps we could continue on as maybe even make money doing it! That was the birth of Prairie Patch, I learned so much over those 14 years and now I am a solo act and have just quit all my day jobs to make performing my main career. the joy of doing something I absolutely love keeps me going everyday.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a mom running your own business?
Doing something I absolutely love and being free to do what I want when I want. Plus, I get paid to do it.
What’s your motivation?
It is hard to do something like this on your own, but when I am in front of an audience singing one of my songs and they love it, there is no place I would rather be at that moment and the rush is amazing! I feel so privileged to be able to do this everyday.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Difficult to say, but I hope to be doing what I do on a bigger scale and have a name that is recognized for excellent children’s music throughout Canada. That’s what I’m aiming for anyways. Sometimes I don’t know how I’ll get there but I keep making steps in that direction.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a working parent {so far}?
My kids have grown up and for the most part moved out, they grew up while I was chasing this dream. For me I hope I have showed them that dreams can come true and you should follow them. Be what you want to be and enjoy what you do everyday, then it’s not really work. I think that is a lesson that I am learning too!! Believe in yourself! Oh, and housework really isn’t that important!
