Wheelies Saskatoon [closed]
When I got the opportunity to test out the Wheelies Balance Bike, I called a few moms to come over and help me test it out!
The Wheelies Balance Bike has a solid birch wood frame, large rubber wheels and a leather seat. It is a bike without pedals and training wheels allowing your child to simply sit and go! The large wheels are great for pavement or grass and can easily go over the wood chips more parks are using now.
We had it tested from children as young as 18 months up to 7 years old. While Wheelies is recommended for ages 2 – 5, all the children had a blast riding it! The younger ones instantly walked up to it and sat on and started walking around.
It is light enough for the little ones to simple lift it up if need be and move it around. The 3 year old group were able to get the hang of sitting and pushing with their feet right away. They even managed to glide down the driveway by the end of the play date.
Of course the older siblings had to give it a try. While it is too small for the 7 year old that we had, it was still ‘cool’ to use and was an instant hit!
I like the fact that you could purchase this bike for a young child to use right away and let them use it for years to come until they are ready for their big bike.

The Inspiration
Last year when we were shopping for our son’s first bike we wanted to get a balance bike. We looked everywhere in the city and couldn’t find one – either stores didn’t carry them or the the type they carried were of poor quality and/or unsafe. We looked on-line and after doing some research we settled on the Runners Balance Bike for our son.
Thinking that other families in Saskatchewan may be facing the same difficulty in finding quality balance bikes we decided to become a retailer and distributer of the bikes in Saskatchewan.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a mom running your own business?
It is a completely new experience for us and something we’ve always wanted to try. Selling bikes to kids and seeing the joy and empowerment they experience when riding the bike all on their own without training wheels is pretty magnificent.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
We’d like to see the opening of a retail store with a number of bike lines.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a working parent {so far}?
Family comes first.
